Supporting Our Community:

Mental Health Crisis Resources and Training

At CSEP, we recognise that mental health support is an essential part of community wellbeing. We're pleased to share important resources from South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) that provide crucial information about getting help during a mental health crisis.

Comprehensive Crisis Support Information

SLaM has developed an extensive range of resources to help individuals, families, and communities navigate mental health crises. These materials are available for all boroughs across South London, ensuring that support is accessible wherever you are located.

The resources include borough-specific crisis leaflets for Croydon, Lewisham, Lambeth, and Southwark, as well as general guidance on how to get help during a mental health crisis. There are also specialised materials addressing self-harm, available in both standard and trifold formats for easy distribution.

Accessible Resources for Everyone

Understanding that our community is diverse, these crisis support materials are available in multiple formats to ensure accessibility. Easy-read and large-print versions are available for those who need them, whilst translated leaflets ensure that language barriers don't prevent anyone from accessing vital support.

The translated materials are available in Albanian, Arabic, Farsi, French, Polish, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, Tamil, and Turkish, reflecting the multicultural nature of our South London communities.

Building Community Capacity: Suicide First Aid Training

As part of our commitment to supporting community wellbeing, members of the CSEP team recently attended Suicide First Aid Training organised by the Centre of Change Counselling and Mentoring Service. This comprehensive training, held on 30th May 2025, provided valuable skills and knowledge to help support individuals experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviours.

The training equipped our team with practical tools to recognise warning signs, offer appropriate support, and connect people with professional help when needed. This investment in our team's capabilities reflects our dedication to being a resource for our community during difficult times.

Future Training Opportunities

We encourage community members, educators, and support workers to consider participating in similar training opportunities. Various organisations across the UK regularly offer Suicide First Aid training sessions, ranging from introductory "Lite" sessions to comprehensive full-day programmes.

These training sessions are invaluable for anyone who works with young people, families, or vulnerable community members. They provide essential skills that can genuinely save lives and offer hope during crisis situations.

How to Access Support

If you or someone you know is experiencing a mental health crisis, remember that help is available. The SLaM crisis resources provide clear guidance on:

  • How to access immediate support during a crisis

  • Local contact numbers and services

  • What to expect when seeking help

  • How to support someone else who may be in crisis

Our Commitment to Community Wellbeing

At CSEP, we believe that supporting mental health is as important as supporting educational achievement. By sharing these resources and investing in crisis support training, we're working to ensure that our community has the tools and knowledge needed to support one another during difficult times.

We'll continue to share information about training opportunities and mental health resources as they become available. Together, we can create a community where everyone feels supported and where help is always within reach.

If you're interested in attending future mental health training sessions or would like more information about the crisis support resources mentioned, please contact us. We're committed to keeping our community informed about opportunities to build skills and knowledge that can make a real difference.

Important Note: If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, please contact emergency services on 999. For mental health crises, the Samaritans are available 24/7 on 116 123.
