Angelina Osborne

Angelina Osborne

Angelina Osborne is a freelance researcher, writer, editor and workshop facilitator. Her speciality is looking at the Black presence in Britain and Caribbean history. Prior to becoming freelance, Angelina was the editor and researcher for Every Generation, the history and heritage community portal aimed at young people and schools and mainstream bodies. In 2003 Every Generation won the CRE Race in the Media award for best website, launched the 100 Great Black Britons website and was nominated for a Race in the Media award in 2005.

Angelina has produced work for the National Archives, the Heritage Lottery Fund, Momentum Arts, the Windrush Foundation, the British Film Institute, and the Equiano Society.

She has recently researched and written the ‘Sites of Memory’ pamphlet for English Heritage, which comes out March 2007, and is currently the Atlantic Gallery project consultant at the National Maritime Museum, and research consultant at Anti Slavery International. Her publication Equiano’s Daughter came out in April.

Dan Lyndon

Dan Lyndon Dan Lyndon is an Advanced Skills Teacher at Henry Compton School, Fulham, West London, where he is also the Head of History. Dan has been teaching for 14 years, after graduating from Sussex University having studied History in the School of African and Asian Studies and completing his PGCE at York University. In addition, Dan is the webmaster of www.blackhistory4schools.com, the only website in the UK with teaching materials, articles, weblinks and a blog dedicated to integrating Black and Asian British History into the National Curriculum and www.comptonhistory.com a website with resources for History teachers. Dan is also on the Management Committee of the Black and Asian Studies Association (BASA).

Donna Spence

Donna SpenceCommedian Donna Spence has performed and hosted at many famous venues such as the Hackney Empire, Comedy Festivals, Tricycle Theatre, Oval House Theatre, Yorshire Playhouse, Family Weekenders, Rotterdam Carnival and recently at the 2nd annual Jerk Cook Out at the Horniman Museum. She is also a regular presenter on Bright Talk TV , BEN TV and facilitates and delivers workshops on Presenting, Drama, Creative Writing, Stand Up Comedy and Voice Coaching.

Dr Hakim Adi

Dr Hakim Adi

Dr Hakim Adi (Ph.D SOAS, London University) is Reader in the History of Africa and the African Diaspora at Middlesex University, London, UK. He is a founder member and currently chairs the Black and Asian Studies Association. Hakim is the author of West Africans in Britain 1900-60: Nationalism, Pan-Africanism and Communism (Lawrence and Wishart, 1998) and (with M. Sherwood) The 1945 Manchester Pan-African Congress Revisited (New Beacon, 1995) and Pan-African History: Political Figures from Africa and the Diaspora since 1787 (Routledge, 2003). He has appeared in television documentaries and radio programmes, and has written widely on the history of Pan-Africanism, the African Diaspora, and Africans in Britain, including three history books for children.

Jacqueline Brooks

Jacqueline BrooksJacqueline Brooks i s a former Lecturer in Business at South Thames College, from a Training and Development background. She has lived in the Borough of Croydon for fours years.

Jacqueline developed a passion for researching and documenting the Transatlantic Slave Trade history after attending a ‘Set All Free’ meeting in June 2006. This ignited the flame within her to educate others using visual and textual materials of previously ‘untold’ stories and bring clarity to the Transatlantic Slave Trade narrative.

Kyle Walcott

Kyle Walcott

Kyle Walcott is a top professional stilt performer from Barbados who has been walking on stilts for 9 years. He has performed in most entertainment venues in Barbados which include Cabaret shows, floor shows, hotels, Carnival, parades and nightclubs. Kyle revels in the audience’s reaction to his extraordinary performances and always tries to get their participation in his shows. He has previously taught stilt walking in schools and community centres in Barbados. Kyle now lives in the UK and has already performed at the Notting Hill carnival, Luton Carnival, Family Fun Days and night clubs.

Mike Oban

Mike ObanMike Oban is a Writer & broadcaster and a regular contributor to a range of BBC sports and cultural programmes. He is a graduate of the University of the West Indies with a BA Degree in Mass Communication. Mike was also a former editor of UK Gleaner and senior reporter with the Voice Newspaper.

S.I. Martin

S.I. MartinSpecialising in the fields of Black British history and literature, S.I. Martin is a writer and researcher who has undertaken Black history projects for numerous organisations including English Heritage, the National Maritime Museum, the Museum of London, London boroughs of Lambeth, Wandsworth, Tower Hamlets and Camden and the BBC. He is the author of “Incomparable World” and “Britain’s Slave Trade” and is the founder of the 500 Years of Black London walking and boat tours. His latest novel “Jupiter Williams” will be published in October 2007.
