This is a NEW CSEP project to be delivered to help celebrate the Cultural Olympiad. The Cultural Olympiad 2008 -2012 is a four year programme of activity celebrating culture in London and throughout the UK to promote the London 2012 Games.
CSEP’S contribution to help celebrate the Cultural Olympiad in Croydon (funded via Croydon Council’s Community Grant Scheme for the Cultural Olympiad) is CROYDON’S OLYMPIANS.
This will be a series of Three events where the focus will be on PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE Olympians AND at the same time reinforcing the Olympic Values of RESPECT, FRIENDSHIP & EXCELLENCE.
Your child will be taken there and brought back to CSEP by coach and will be given light refreshments.
Date: Saturday 31st January 2009
Time: 11.00am – 3.00pm
Venue: Croydon Sports Arena which is the “home” and Training ground of Croydon Harriers
The Theme of the first event is RESPECT which is one of the Olympic values and the Olympian presenting this theme will be Past Olympian Donovan Reid who represented Great Britain in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics 100metres finalist in which he came seventh and Carl Lewis won the gold.
The Children will start off with warm up exercises then they will participate in a mini sponsored run / walk event around the Croydon Arena track.
After that the children will have a motivational presentation from Donovan and then he will take his place in the Mastermind Chair for the students to ask him questions about his sport and the Olympics as a whole and at the same time promoting the 2012 Olympic Games in the UK.
Please encourage your child to do some previous research on Olympian Donavan Reid. The second Olympian will be a surprise guest!
