The Transatlantic Slave Trade: The Triangle Effect

Presented by Dr. Hakim Adi

18th July 2007

How did a country the size of Britain have so much influence on transatlantic enslavement? Dr Adi attempts to answer this key question by exploring Britain’s involvement in its development, and how what took place 500 years ago continues to have a profound effect on world development.

Dr Adi explores how the “triangular trade” made Britain into one of the most powerful nation on earth through the sale of Africans and slave produced goods and also created a culture of resistance among Africans, Caribbeans and Britons that manifested into a call for human rights and Pan Africanism.
