Presented by Robin Walker

22nd March 2008

Robin Walker, author of When we Ruled (2006) and Before the Slave Trade (2008) delivered an interactive lecture about the ancient and medieval history of African civilisations.

Using archaeological data, maps, photographs, documentary evidence and historical research, Robin introduced participants to the following concepts:

  • Early African science and technology
  • Black families medieval manuscripts
  • African timelines
  • Ancient Egypt

The presentation aim was to challenge the belief that Africa’s history began with European involvement and enslavement.

Keywords

  • Medieval African lifestyle & conquest
  • Building, artefacts, books, architectural finds & excavations

Suggestions

  • DVD’s/programmes on TV & Tours of Africa/Caribbean to see the places shown on presentation
  • Availability of materials for schools

Comments

  • The heritage chronicles have been a success and I hope CSEP receives future funding to continue the great work they’ve done this for.
  • This sort of event should be shown on television/radio stations, to cause awareness to the black community.
  • I would like to see more about black history being presented on TV by black historians & Why can’t black books get more publicity?
